A tiny fraction owns a staggering share of the world’s wealth. What does this say about inequality?
The richest 0.001% – fewer than 60,000 adult individuals – own about 3 times as much wealth as the entire bottom 50% of the world’s adults – that’s more than 3 billion people ( over 300 crore adults).
The authoritative World Inequality Report 2026, based on research and data compiled by more than 200 researchers, also shows that this group’s share of global wealth has risen from 3.7% in 1995 to 6.1% in 2025.
The gap is not merely large, it has been widening.
If this concentration of wealth continues to grow, where will it eventually take our economies and societies?
