Notes on Inequality #27. Is Wealth a Fixed Pie?
Wealth is not necessarily a fixed pie where one person’s larger share means someone else must have a smaller share. Wealth creation is not a zero-sum game. So, it is a mistake to look at wealth as a fixed resource where one person’s gain must necessarily be another person’s loss.
But wealth creation alone does not guarantee that its benefits will reach everyone.
Perhaps the real challenge is not choosing between wealth creation and reducing inequality, but finding ways to do both.
If the pie can grow, why are so many still getting only crumbs?
What happens when wealth grows much faster than opportunity?
